The dual fuel system consists of an add-on electric heat pump to an oil, gas, or propane furnace. When the outside temperature drops below 25°, the heat pump turns off and the furnace automatically comes on. In the summer, the heat pump becomes a central air conditioning unit, and provides cooling comfort by collecting heat from the air in your home and expelling it outside. The member must sign an agreement which explains the requirements for the Dual Fuel Program. The home must be at least 6 years old to qualify for the rebate (new construction homes do not qualify). The heat pump must be installed by an HVAC contractor on the Cooperative's Dual Fuel Dealers list to receive the rebate. The add-on heat pump must be Energy Star certified with a minimum SEER of 14.0, and minimum COP of 2.5, and minimum HSPF of 8.0. To download our dual fuel informational packet, click here.
Butler Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc. offers a $200 rebate towards the purchase of the heat pump on homes at least six years old. There is also a 2¢ kWh savings on heat pump usage during the months of September through May. A separate meter is installed at the heat pump. Loans are also available to finance the heat pump at a low 3% fixed interest rate.
