Federal stimulus bill makes money available

Since the passage of the federal stimulus bill, there is money available to help many Americans weatherize their homes and make significant energy efficiency improvements. The U.S. Department of Energy says weatherization, the process of sealing air leaks and properly insulating a home, can reduce heating bills by up to 32%. Ohio's Home Weatherization Assistance Program (HWAP) is a federally funded residential energy efficiency program. Through the stimulus package, the funding has increased for lower income families ten times the previous amount. It extends eligibility to those with incomes below 200% of the national poverty level. For a family of four, that’s an income limit of $44,000. Contact the Cooperative for information about how to receive an application and how to contact one of the area’s authorized weatherization providers. Call 513-867-4400 or 800-255-BREC (2732).
