Your bill has a different look

In April, 2009, you received a brochure entitled Energy, a changing market, a changing world. In this communication, we explained that your electric bill would look differently after July 15, 2009. We showed you the new terms that defined the components of your bill.

What used to be called the Monthly Base Charge is now named the Distribution Base Charge.

What used to be called your Energy Charge is now called the Distribution Energy Charge, and the Generation & Transmission Charge.

Your Generation & Transmission Charge will fluctuate each month.

Generation and Transmission Charge  -  this is the cost of coal, environmental enhancements at the generation facilities, fuel for trains, trucks and barges to bring the coal to the plant, and sending power over transmission lines to our distribution system. It’s the cost of power from Buckeye Power, Inc., our generation and transmission cooperative.

Distribution Base Charge  -  This component of the bill covers upkeep of our electrical system, such as lines, poles, meters, substations…everything it takes to bring electricity to you.

Distribution Energy Charge  -  This component of the bill covers all of the operating, administrative, and regulatory costs that are incurred in the daily functions of the Cooperative.

In the past, the Cooperative was able to forecast the generation and transmission costs and adjust rates accordingly.  But, because of the instability of the generation and transmission costs which are influenced by the market, they fluctuate from month to month. To remain financially strong and continue to keep our system reliable and well-maintained, we have redesigned all rates so that they reflect the monthly fluctuations of the generation and transmission component of your bill.

You can see the generation and transmission costs each month by logging onto the Cooperative’s Web site, www.butlerrural.coop and click on My Cooperative, About Us, and then click on Rate Information. You are welcome to call the Cooperative if you have any questions: 513-867-4400 or 800-255-BREC (2732).
